Our History

SBSA was formally known as BioMASS. BioMASS, the BioMedical Association of Stanford Students, was founded by Gregory Frank and Ed Rock in 1990 to represent graduate students at the Medical Center.

BioMASS officially assumed a larger student leadership role at the School of Medicine in 2010, transitioning into the Stanford Biosciences Student Association. SBSA continues on in the finest traditions of BioMASS, creating opportunities for students to connect and excel while providing the social network necessary for a well-connected and interdisciplinary research program.

The Stanford Biosciences Student Association represents all graduate students studying biology-related fields within the Schools of Medicine, Engineering, and Humanities and Sciences.
